welcome

Hi, I'm Dillah. I'm a 23yr aspiring Costume Designer and Maker, I from Nottingham Trent University in 2021 with a 2:1 in Costume Design and Making. I currently work as a Costume Hire Assistant at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Growing up with parents who both previously worked in the entertainment industry, my mother being a stage and location manager at the Bristol Old Vic and BBC, my father being a

sound technician at the BBC and RSC, it was obvious from a young age that I would follow in their footpaths. As an ex ballet dancer and musician I loved going to the theatre, ballets and the cinema often and was always deeply interested in the behind the scenes and work that went on to create marvellous performances.

I chose to pursue costume as I love creating a character and telling their backstory through their clothing, once having a teacher tell me what makes a good production is that every time you watch it, you spot something different. I love to hide little 'Easter eggs' in my costumes whether it be in the textile manipulation, another passion of mine, or the chosen silhouette and colouring.

I aspire to make interesting thought provoking costumes that not only grasp the attention of the audience, helping them to understand the character, but also to make the actor comfortable and be able to embody the persona.
